Julia is a theatre-activist dedicated to participatory theatre and Madalena – theatre by and for women and girls only. Starting as a classical musician and documentary photographer, Julia was searching for ways of how she could engage in more direct communication with her audience and discuss issues of social concern. Throughout this search she joined the global movement of Theatre of the Oppressed. During performances, workshops and projects, Julia aims to explore challenges and limitations towards peace and equality in a manner which incorporates a variety of creative and collaborative approaches while also imagining, promoting and practicing alternative realities.
Julia lives in Timor-Leste since 2011 and is currently working with TERTIL Teatru Timor Leste. Prior she served as Vice-President of Theatre of the Oppressed-Vienna.
